It seems like just the other day I was wracking my brain about how to fit an entire story into just 200 words. And then I hear there is the opportunity to do it again, but with half the words! Well, after having such a positive experience with the Fall Writing Frenzy, I couldn't resist. So I snatched up my notebook, found a cozy spot and stared at a blank page for hours. I hemmed and I hawed and I hemmed some more. This was hard! The open endedness of it all was almost too much for me. Luckily, after some brainstorming and a detour down a way too sinister road for this contest, I landed in a darkish, yet kid-friendly land that I am pleased to share.
A-HUNTIN'
The moon is bright,
tonight’s the night.
I’m dying to go a-huntin’.
Might be too old
for trick-or-treats,
but not for going huntin’.
Out the door and
on the street.
Ready for a-huntin’.
Skeletal friends,
blending in.
Here we go a-huntin’.
Hungry breath
beneath our masks.
Time to start a-huntin’.
Trick-or-treaters;
unaware
that they’re being hunted.
Creep up slow,
nowhere to go.
Little hands,
hold candy tight.
Pulling...
pulling...
back
and
forth.
Just.
Let.
Go.
Wrappers surround.
Lay on the ground.
We’re all done a-huntin’.
Wonderful rhythm and lovely story!
Love how it turned out!! Great entry!! So spooky!
