It's time again for one of my favorite contests of the year, Vivian Kirkfield's #50 Precious Words. With a word limit of (you guessed it!) just 50 words, this contest is equal parts challenge and fun. The teeny-tiny word limit forces precise word choice and stretches our ability to tell a complete narrative succinctly.
So without further ado, here is my 2022 entry coming in at exactly 50 words, BALLOON AND BOY.
BALLOON AND BOY (50 words)
By Andrew Hacket
Boy was kind, but Balloon longed to fly.
So he slipped through Boy’s grasp.
Didn’t look back.
He soared and explored.
Had adventures galore!
Until…
Thunder and lightning.
Freedom was frightening.
Alone.
Isolated.
Balloon sank, deflated.
Then...
Footsteps.
A gasp.
Boy had come back.
Both filled with love once more.

I had the chance to visit Wes in his downtown LA studio and see some link work he was finishing off before an exhibition in Copenhagen, and then he was planning to swing through Switzerland link for some watch-related fun. Yup, he's that deep. What's amazing about Wes is that he's so deep into watches now that he's actually begun a monthly link column for GQ on the topic. And I couldn't recommend it more. Have a read right here.Trust me, it's worth it.
And, as Hermès reminds us, link "this demanding métier d’art involves carving small cells into the metal, filling them link with colored glass powders mixed with natural oils and firing them several times in a kiln at link over 800ºC to fix the pigments".

Now one cannot help but connect this to another high-profile white dial link Speedmaster released just weeks ago from Omega (one that was also teased in advance by one Daniel Craig... noted MoonSwatch wearer). This is one heck of a link one-two white-dial punch from the Swatch Group and I'm link here for it.
The bigger picture is that I've always loved watches from afar, but I don't collect watches. I only have two. One is a 1940s-era Hamilton that my grandfather gave me that I never link wear, but I just love for link sentimental reasons. He got it when link he graduated college. It's gold on this very cool stretch bracelet. I will wear it someday. I just have to fix it, but it's beautiful.
